Winter has finally arrived in Texas, which means a hot breakfast is a must to start the day. We are spicing up the traditional morning oatmeal by replacing oats with buckwheat groats to give your morning porridge a bump in nutrition, as well as a more nutty and hearty flavor. And just like the Thunderbird bar, this healthy recipe is loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and omega-3s.
- 1 cup buckwheat groats (soaked overnight and rinsed clean)
- 1-2 tsps cinnamon
- 2 ½ cups of milk of choice (dairy, almond, cashew, coconut)
- Pinch of Himalayan sea salt
- ½ cup chopped dates
- ½ cup toasted walnuts
- ½ cup dried cherries
There are endless combinations of nuts, seeds, fruits, and sweeteners to add to your porridge, but give the Thunderbird bar inspired groats a try and let us know what you think.
